Prepare for a power shortage

Electricity shortages occur when more electricity is used than what is produced or imported. In such cases, electricity consumption must be limited through short power outages to prevent the power system from becoming overloaded. Fingrid, which is responsible for the main grid, manages the process using a three-step model and instructs distribution network operators to disconnect consumption. When the risk of electricity shortage is known, it is communicated widely. The situation is monitored by professionals, and the measures are planned and regularly practiced.

In the city of Turku, excluding the Paattinen area, electricity distribution is handled by Turku Energia Sähköverkot Oy. We always strive to provide advance notice of any potential power outages due to electricity shortages as early as possible. However, it’s important to note that advance notice may not be possible if Fingrid issues a consumption reduction order on very short notice (less than 15 minutes).

We monitor the status of the electricity network 24/7

We monitor the status of the electricity network around the clock. Our monitoring systems receive immediate notifications of major network faults. For this reason, there is no need to call us right when a power outage begins. First, check our communication channels. If there is no information about the outage even after a short while, you can report it using our fault report form.

However, you must call Turku Energia’s emergency number (tel. 0800 02001) in all electricity network-related emergencies. You can also call if you know the cause of the power outage and can help us locate the fault.
